For letters (@x@yellbot.online or @G@yellbot.online), digits (@7@yellbot.online), and _ (@_@yellbot.online), you can follow the character directly. For any other character, you follow the unicode hex value: follow "🐺" at @1F43A@yellbot.online or "?" at @3F@yellbot.online. The bots can be followed on Mastodon or any other ActivityPub compatible system.
